Most of my days consist of studying, working, exercising, and spending quality family time.
I love to study because it’s a great way to utilize time. If I’m on the go, I take my notes with me and review them, especially before an exam. Although I tend to write down a lot and have filled out all my notebook pages in full for Math, Chemistry, and Computer courses, I enjoy this endeavor towards success.
Stemming from studying is my interest in learning different languages. I have become accustomed to speaking Spanish since learning about the many different dialects of my fellow Latino-Americans, and that of my Colombian family’s. Learning French as a college requisite for a year now drove me to learn about the French people and their multiculturalism, and I am in the process of preparing to study abroad in Lyon, France to learn about the residents and the language. I’m pushing myself to be absorbed in French music so I can improve my French. I also like to speak the languages of other people. I’ve learned some phrases in Arabic such as “As-salamu alaykum”, meaning, “Peace be upon you”, and various in Mandarin, notably basic communication sentences such as asking what someone’s name is. I’ve picked up some Tagalog phrases I now use to greet my Filipino co-workers, namely “Kumusta ka”, which means “How are you?”
As part of exercising, I’ve let calisthenics become a fundamental component of my life, and my goal is to develop advanced skills in this field such as the front lever, back lever, and the human flag. No matter what my mind is set on, I feel content with myself and more self-controlled. This is beneficial for focus on other things in my day-to-day schedule, as said above.
I’ve worked in the fast-food industry for about 11 months, then in the retail industry since July 2022. My first experience working allowed me to develop patience with many customers who weren’t satisfied with the service we provided them with, as well as learn to save money and build up credit.
I’m glad I’m able to spare time for my family during the week. I like to cook dinner for them, breakfast on the weekends, go out somewhere in my city of New York, anything that I can do to be there with them as they can with me. I can’t take that for granted.
My other interests include playing the acoustic guitar, which I’ve done for 8 years. Once a month or so, I take my camera somewhere in or around the city and do photoshoots of nature, urban infrastructure, neighborhoods, my family and friends. I also like to listen to classical music or low fidelity hip hop in the morning and at night. It helps me retain my composure for the rest of the day.
Now I’m on the search for understanding GIS and developing an interest in this field.
